In an historic moment for the US, but also for women everywhere, Kamala Harris became the first female American vice president-elect last evening. Here are some of the internet’s best reactions to the Biden/Harris winning ticket…
While unsubstantiated calls of voter fraud continue to ring out from the Trump campaign team, it’s clear to most of us that as of yesterday, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be taking up residence in the offices of the White House on January 20th 2021. Whether you were following AP, CNN, BBC or NYT, when the decision desks made the long-awaited, Pennsylvania-reliant call, the internet had a LOT to say.
Here are our favourite reactions, beginning with this short video of Harris calling Biden to congratulate him on their historic and momentous win.
Meanwhile, vocal Trump detractor Chrissy Teigen posted a video of herself and her famous husband, John Legend, dancing to a song which seems to be called ‘F*ck Donald Trump’. She posted it to Instagram and tagged not only Trump, but also his entire family.

Our very own president, Michael D Higgins, was quick to congratulate the new president elect and his soon-to-be VP.
Irish news reporter Richard Chambers, who quite frankly we don’t think has slept for more than 15 minutes since Tuesday, tweeted this heartening but sombre side-by-side of Der Spiegel covers.

In spite of the fact that Kim Kardashian West’s own husband, Kanye West, also ran for president this year (garnering about 60,000 of a possible 160 million votes), she posted this tweet showing her support for the newly elected Biden/Harris pair.

In a welcome change from the usual doom-scrolling, horror-scrolling repetition we’ve all been unethusiastic participants in lately, this tweeter made a new realisation…
Is this,,,, joy scrolling????

Among the many, many celebrities celebrating the democratic bid for the White House, Bette Midler tweeted this video of (we think!) New York city where people were cheering, beeping and dancing in the street.

Irish journalist Jennifer O’Connell quite rightly asserted that if Kamala Harris has even a single percentage of Irish heritage, we WILL research it, we WILL find out and we WILL name a small town/petrol station after her. Biden’s Ballina Plaza is virtually a guarantee at this point.
History.
Congratulations @KamalaHarris.
If you have an Irish cousin, by God, we’ll find them. https://t.co/eLmc0G6pmD

Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who famously played fictional female vice president Selina Meyer in political satire TV show Veep, tweeted this.

Content editor and podcaster Orlaith Condon was quick to notice the Twitter bio changes of both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, showing that in spite of the various Trump camp legal challenges and tiresome 75-odd days ahead, they are confident in their new positions as president- and vice president-elect.
